Getting started

Which devices does Cuvee run on?

Windows (64-bit), macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Linux (64-bit), Android phones and tablets, and Android TV and Fire TV. Versions for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV are on their way to the App Store, and a Steam Deck version is coming too.

Where can my media come from?

From local folders and drives, network shares (SMB, FTP and WebDAV), Google Drive, and Emby or Jellyfin servers. You can also add IPTV playlists for live TV. Add as many sources as you like; Cuvee shows them as one library.

Does Cuvee include films or TV shows?

No. Cuvee is a player. It doesn't sell, stream or host any content, and it doesn't come with any content sources — it plays the media you already have. Please only play media you have the right to watch.

Installing

Android phones and tablets

Download the Android app from the Download section and open the file. If Android asks, allow your browser to install apps, then tap Install.

Android TV and Fire TV

Download the Android TV app and install it with a file manager or downloader app on the TV. You may need to allow that app to install unknown apps in the TV's settings first.

Windows

Download the Windows zip, extract it to a folder of your choice, and run cuvee_player.exe from that folder.

macOS

There are two builds: one for Macs with Apple silicon and one for Intel Macs. If you're not sure which you have, choose Apple menu → About This Mac and look for "Chip" (Apple silicon) or "Processor" (Intel). Download the matching zip, open it, and move Cuvee Player to your Applications folder.

Linux

Download the Linux archive and extract it. Run ./install.sh in the extracted folder to add Cuvee Player to your applications menu for your user account (./install.sh --uninstall removes it again), or start ./cuvee_player directly without installing. Cuvee needs a 64-bit distribution at least as recent as Ubuntu 22.04 (glibc 2.35 or later).

Can I check that a download is genuine?

Yes. Every release has a list of SHA-256 checksums: SHA256SUMS.txt. Compare it with the checksum of the file you downloaded, for example with shasum -a 256 <file> on macOS or certutil -hashfile <file> SHA256 on Windows.

Free and paid

Is Cuvee free?

Cuvee is free to download. Video from local folders, network shares, cloud drives and IPTV playlists plays free. With media-server libraries (such as Emby and Jellyfin), some playback needs a Cuvee licence — for example, films in formats other than MP4, and episodes beyond the free allowance for a series.

How do I use a licence?

Enter your licence code in the app. A licence is tied to the devices it is activated on, up to the number your plan includes. If you change devices or have trouble activating, email us with your licence code.

Can I get a refund?

Yes — purchases made from us can be refunded in full within 14 days of the charge, for any reason. Purchases made through the App Store are refunded by Apple. The details are in our refund policy.

Privacy

Does Cuvee upload my videos?

No. Your videos stay where they are and play directly from your source to your device. To recognise what a file is, Cuvee sends its file and folder names to our metadata service — never the file itself. The Privacy Policy lists everything the app sends.

Where are my passwords stored?

Passwords and sign-in tokens for your servers, shares and cloud drives are stored on your device, and are only ever sent to the service they belong to.
